2 The Sense of Sound

Bright multicolor colorful wave

Our emotions and our inner well-being are often influenced greatly by what we hear.   Choosing the right soundtrack to your life can not only keep you revved in the direction you’re headed or inspired about what’s to come, but it can also help you wind down and clear your mind. Realize that everyone has their OWN soundtrack. Sometimes, just finding a quiet space and meditating is the best solution![1]

Here are a few suggestions on how to relax yourself using the sense of sound.

  • Make a music night of it.
  • Explain what you like about your favorite music type to someone who does not agree or who may be new to the genre.
  • Try listening to isochronic or binaural beats.
  • Try Chillhop Music or lo-fi beats.
  • Try spa music.
  • Create your own personal playlist for the morning, evening, or certain moods. Select music that makes you feel good. Share your playlist with others.
  • Participate in Battle of the Artist featured night of music.  Find one sponsored or create your own.
  • Be careful of love songs, that can easily turn to the blues or political songs that can make you angry. Curate these into a playlist and be selective.  Be wary of the artist whose first album was about love, because they were in love and had just gotten married.  While the next album was about hurt and depression because by this time they were divorced.  Without knowing it, just by listening to their catalog, you have transferred your mind and mood into a different space.
  • Try listening to music with your eyes closed.
  • Try listening to a guided meditation.
  • Try listening to nature outside. [2]
  • Hang wind chimes near an open window.[3]
