Introduction to Second April by Edna St. Vincent MIllay

Poet and playwright Edna St. Vincent Millay (February 22, 1892 – October 19, 1950) gained early fame for her poem “Renascence,” which she wrote for a poetry contest at age 20. Her poetry collection Second April  (1921) has an elegiac spirit and features a number of sonnets. Millay is admired for having brought the sonnet form to a high level of excellence.
