Introduction

Some contemporary textbooks indicate that an ellipse has just two vertices —
the endpoints of the major axis.  Older textbooks teach that an ellipse has four vertices.

Some authors have made an inappropriate distinction between vertices and  “co-vertices”.

Why is it correct simply to say: an ellipse has four vertices?
