Controlling Cybercrime: Legislation, Law Enforcement, and Investigation

Section III includes five modules:

  1. Legal Frameworks and Natural Rights in the Digital Age
  2. Cybercrime Investigations
  3. Introduction to Digital Forensics
  4. Practical Aspects of Computer-Related Crime and Digital Forensics
  5. Cybersecurity and Cybercrime prevention: Strategies, Policies, and Programs

In this section, you’ll explore how laws and rights apply in today’s digital world. We’ll examine federal statutes that regulate electronic surveillance of communication networks, as well as fundamental questions about privacy, search, and seizure in a digital context. You’ll also learn about digital evidence, how it is created, stored, hidden, and recovered—and the investigative procedures used to handle it properly. Finally, the section critically examines national and international cybersecurity strategies, demonstrating how governments work to protect information and communication technologies (ICT) in an interconnected global system.

Why this matters.

As technology becomes more integrated into daily life, understanding legal protections, investigating digital crimes, and assessing cybersecurity strategies are crucial skills. This knowledge not only prepares you for careers in criminal justice and cybersecurity but also helps you grasp the balance between security, privacy, and individual rights in the digital age.
