Controlling Cybercrime: Legislation, Law Enforcement, and Investigation

Section III includes five modules: (1) Legal frameworks and natural rights within the digital age, (2) Cybercrime investigations, (3) Introduction to digital forensics, (4) Practical aspects of computer-related crime and digital forensics, and (5) Cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention: strategies, policies, and programs. The goal of these five modules is provide for an examination of issues of federal statutes that govern electronic surveillance in communications networks and discuss fundamental concepts of privacy as it relates to concepts of search and seizure. Particular attention is given to technical aspects of evidence and procedures related to digital evidence and how information is stored and hidden on physical media. A critical examination of cybersecurity strategies countries use to protect information and communication technology (ICT) in provided as a way to understand how the ever-increasing interdependence of digital devices within countries, as well as growing networks connections with the digital systems of other countries.
