Evaluating the Nature and Extent of Cybercrime

Section II consists of four modules:

  1. Privacy and Data Protection
  2. Sophisticated Cyber-Criminal Organizations
  3. Interpersonal Cybercrime
  4. Computer-Facilitated White-Collar Crime

Together, these modules aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of the different forms of cybercrime. The content progresses from individual analysis to institutional perspectives, examining how issues of privacy, law, and enforcement intersect. Students will also analyze data sets created by government agencies, NGOs, and private organizations to explore the scope of cybercrime.

Why this matters.

Cybercrime manifests in many ways, from scams targeting individuals to large-scale attacks by organized groups. Recognizing these different levels of activity helps you understand how cybercrime affects everyday people, businesses, and governments. By learning to analyze data and identify patterns, you’ll be better equipped to assess risks, think critically about solutions, and apply this knowledge in future careers in criminal justice or cybersecurity.
