36 Introduction

Learning Objectives

  • Explain Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.
  • Identify and describe the eight instructional strategies.
  • Create a learning objective.

In this chapter, a variety of general pedagogical strategies are introduced. Think of the strategies as being part of a spectrum that goes from student-centered at one extreme to teacher-centered at the other. Bloom (1956) created a hierarchy that classifies thinking from low cognitive load to high cognitive load creation. Others have revised Bloom’s Taxonomy to reflect new media understanding and technological competencies. Effective teachers often use Bloom’s Taxonomy to write clear learning objectives to meet the lesson’s standards.
